COVID-19

Tuesday 17th March 2020

Dear Parents and Carers,

As you can imagine, we are in constant communication at present to discuss the best way to minimise the risk of COVID-19 in school and appreciate that you will want regular updates on decisions made at King Henry.

To reduce risk and anxiety, we will be limiting avoidable large gatherings wherever possible.  We have suspended all assemblies, parents’ evenings, events and non-essential meetings with external visitors for the rest of this term; we will review again after Easter. Do accept our sincere apologies if the latter affects a meeting that you have arranged. This does mean the parents’ evenings on Thursday 26th March is cancelled.

Partial School Closure
As you know, we do have some students and staff with conditions that fall into the vulnerable groups category for such a virus and therefore we strongly support the government guidelines for individuals to self-isolate for seven days if they display any symptoms, or for fourteen days if anyone in their family develops such symptoms.

This has resulted in a partial closure of the school as we do not have staff capacity in school to accommodate the learning of all year groups on site.

Home Learning Packages
Year 12: Students have been sent home today with instructions on working from home. Work will be emailed directly to students by class teachers and should be completed accordingly.
Year 10: Students are to stay at home from Wednesday 18th March. Work will be sent home directly to students via email. This can also be accessed from the School Website.
Year 9: Students are to stay at home from Wednesday 18th March. Work will be uploaded on to the website and can be accessed in this way.

Students are expected to work through their home learning package and should bring this completed work back to school when they return.

Please Note:  The school will be open as usual for all other year groups until further notice.

We will continue to take advice from the government and monitor the situation. Please check the website for further updates.  We will endeavour to communicate as often as possible to update you. This will be via email and the school website.

Exam Groups
Understandably, there have been many questions raised about the summer examinations. We will be informed by Ofqual if there are any changes to GCSE and A Level but at present we have been advised the following:

“We recognise that students, parents, schools and colleges will be concerned about the possible impact of coronavirus on the 2020 summer exam series. Our advice at this time is to continue to prepare for exams and other assessments as normal.”

In light of this, we will continue to plan for examinations as usual whilst planning for a range of possible scenarios, as I am sure parents would expect. As part of this process, some staff may have asked students to submit evidence of their work in the unlikely event that this is later required. I would like to stress that Ofqual haven’t asked us to do this but we want to ensure that we have planned for every eventuality in case a student has to self-isolate at a later date.

Thank you for your continued support.

Yours sincerely

Mr D Deehan
