Dear Parents and Carers,
Welcome to our regular bulletin from The Odyssey Trust for Education to keep you informed about progress during this current crisis. I hope you and your families are well and managing during this difficult time.
Thank you again for keeping your children at home and supporting us as we provide on-line learning for them. Thank you also to those parents who have been kind enough to provide us with feedback on how this remote teaching is working and for the words of encouragement. We will be collecting feedback as we progress so that we can fine tune the provision we have in place. A survey form will follow shortly.
Free School Meals
If you are eligible for Free School Meals, you will shortly be receiving your first vouchers to use at local supermarkets. While we wait for the Department for Education to provide a clear process for this we have gone ahead and purchased these ourselves. They should cover a week and a half and if we still do not receive guidance from the Dfe we will send more vouchers next week.
If you receive any communications from anyone else asking for bank details or personal information in order to access free school meals, please do not respond. This is a scam. We will inform you of any change in the arrangements.
We will very soon be approaching the Easter holidays and the government has asked schools to continue to provide provision for vulnerable children and the children of key workers. This will be the same as the current format, with the expectation that parents keep their children at home unless unable to do so. We would like to know who might need provision over this time so we can plan staffing. Therefore, you will shortly receive a form to fill in to request Easter holiday provision. At this stage we cannot guarantee that we will be able to meet this so please only request if there is no other option.
At KHS we will be launching a new on line learning platform, Microsoft Teams, after Easter. This will allow us to monitor student progress more effectively. At Townley students will continue to use Google Classrooms. We are not yet able to provide the same platform for both but we will be able to provide all students (KHS and TGS) access to The Odyssey Curriculum via Google classrooms very soon. This means students at both schools can access resources from both schools.
In the meantime, it is important as parents that you ensure your children are completing work set and using other on line learning platforms to supplement their learning. This is a great time for self-directed learning and if used well can shape their education for the years to come. In the same way if it is squandered it may set their education back considerably. I realise that this is a great responsibility for parents who may also have pressures from work. We will continue to support you as you have supported us.
Take care and stay safe
