New Headteacher

Dear Parent/Carer,

I am delighted to have been appointed as the new Headteacher of King Henry School. It is an absolute privilege to have been asked to lead the school into the next phase of its improvement and growth. At the heart of my vision for the school is a commitment to high standards, inclusion and social mobility.

I have an array of educational experiences, most recently as the Deputy Headteacher at a large, high performing comprehensive school in Bromley where outcomes are outstanding. In the past, I have also served as Cabinet Member for Education in Bexley, working with all local schools and leaders across the Borough. I also have a strong understanding of King Henry School, and our local community, having previously volunteered as a governor at the school. Together, these experiences provide a strong foundation of knowledge and understanding of our local community, and our school’s incredible potential.

As a father to three school-age children myself, I know that parents/carers will now want a period of stable and consistent leadership at King Henry School. We have a number of exciting plans being developed ahead of the 2020/21 academic year, but we will limit the number of significant changes, focusing on getting everyday routines and habits consistent and ensuring high quality teaching and learning. We are also committed to improving the school environment and a significant refurbishment project is now underway.

With a high turnover of school leaders in recent years, my commitment to our students and parents/carers is to be a visible and approachable Headteacher; one who truly champions our students and their many successes, and is committed to the long-term success of the school. In doing so, I am keen to harness the views and energy of our parents/carers and will be holding regular parent forums in the months ahead.

Over the past Term, we have recruited strongly to key positions within the school and I am delighted to have an extremely impressive senior leadership team in place. You can find out more about my senior team below.

Whilst I will not take up my post permanently until September 2020, I will be working closely with KHS staff over the coming weeks as we prepare for 2020/21, particularly in reference to any form of school re-opening as and when appropriate, and will be in regular contact with parents/carers.

It is a privilege to have been appointed and I look forward to working with you all in the coming months and years. In the meantime, do take good care of yourselves and your loved ones in these difficult times.

Yours faithfully,

Mr R Leitch, Headteacher
