Use of mobile phones in school

19th October 2018

Dear Parents/Carers

Re: Use of mobile phones in school

I am writing to inform you of a change in the school rules on mobile phones. Despite the current blanket ban on carrying a mobile phone, we are aware that many students carry them to and from school without them being switched on or used on the school site. We also know that many of you encourage this, for understandable reasons, to ensure your son/daughter can contact you on their journey home if required.
From Monday 29th October, the rule will be that students are allowed to bring mobile phones to and from school. However, there is no change in our policy on usage during the day whilst on school site and this remains strictly forbidden. Mobile phones should, at all times, be switched off and kept in school bags.
Any student found using a mobile phone on site will, in the first instance, have the phone confiscated and returned at the end of the school day. In the second instance, within an academic year, the phone will be kept by the school until the end of that week. In the third instance, the phone will be kept and returned at the end of that half term.
Thank you for your cooperation in this matter.

Yours faithfully

A Maher
